Making Room - Part 5: God Made Room For Me

You and I were chatting recently about my home here in Mississippi.  I never thought I’d leave Alabama.  Not after a lifetime there.

But you put a thought in my heart and made a way.

And of course - as you would have it - that way led me straight to the house I was trying to build with all those renovations.

Most days I wake up in this house and marvel, “I get to live in the this house?”

It’s literally the home of my dreams.  All those renovations and dreams I had in my head came to life here in an instant.

A front door with glass in it,

a real entryway,

board and batten,

brass faucets and fixtures,

a stone floor in my shower,

a HUGE bathtub (and a water heater to fill it),

a closet with shelves and drawers that fit all my clothes,

a kitchen with bottom shelves and an island,

an actual pantry - with shelves I didn’t have to make,

a laundry room big enough for a counter and sink...

three porches (one covered, one screened, and one open air - exactly what I was trying to build at an old house)

and a yard big enough for the dogs (and maybe one day a pool).

Every day on my way to work....

And every day on my way home....

I find myself exhaling.

I drive a mile with a lake on one side and a horse pasture on the other in this community I call home.

I baby talk the cute wittle ducks...

and ooo and ahhh at the families of deer that visit in the morning....

And say, “Good Evening, Sir,” to Urkel the turtle who suns in the afternoons on the little log right before I turn on the street.

It is abundantly more than I ever dreamt of.

Abundantly more.

I went from a home ten years ago where no one made room for me, to renovating an older one, to a brand spanking new one with all my hopes and dreams.

Those renovation years were not wasted.  Not a single one of them.

You taught me about your heart for restoration.

You taught me how to love and forgive.

You taught me that some rooms I’m not meant to fit in.

You taught me perseverance in those renovations....

And that with you, I had everything I needed to build something beautiful.

And then you walked me right into a home that had it all.

Breath.

Space.

Light.

Room.

And there is nothing left in boxes because I finally found a home where You made room for me.

“For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”

— Genesis 26:22
